This photograph was taken with a medium format camera, a Mamiya RZ67. It was a little after 9 in the morning, the shadows looked wonderful, and all I had to do was very carefully arrange the tripod position for the best arrangement of the curved lamps, curved roof and curved balustrade.
The trickiest part – and the one I had most doubts of managing – was making the balustrade on the left glow in the print. I was afraid of it turning muddy. I like the high key effect, and it is what I was aiming for, but some people prefer it printed slightly darker.
I like it, puts me in mind of the promenade deck of a cruise ship.
